About this work

Two journeys about thirty years apart in the Amazon: in 1909 Karamakate, a shaman and the last survivor of his tribe, guides the sick German ethnographer Theo in search of the sacred plant yakruna, and in 1940 the withdrawn old man travels the same way with the American botanist Evan. Along the river they meet a brutal mission and the effects of the rubber boom. The film won the Art Cinema Award in the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes and became Colombia's first nominee for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
