About this work

In a remote Quechua-speaking village, the community leader Ignacio learns that a medical team from an American aid agency has been sterilizing women without their knowledge, and the villagers retaliate. Police shoot the men; Ignacio's wife takes him, wounded, to the city, where his brother Sixto searches desperately for blood, but he dies. According to Dennis West, US officials denied the allegation, and the Bolivian government banned the film before lifting the ban after 24 hours under public pressure.
