About this work

Traces of an Old Vineyard is Mahsa Vahdat's first solo album after a series of duo records, released in January 2015 by the Norwegian label Kirkelig Kulturverksted (KKV) and produced by Erik Hillestad. Its twelve songs set her own melodies to poems by Khayyam, Hafez and Rumi and were recorded in September 2014 at Kulturkirken Jakob in Oslo, with Tord Gustavsen (piano, keyboards and arrangements), Shervin Mohajer (kamancheh) and Ali Rahimi (percussion). According to Qantara, women in Iran are barred from singing solo in public, which is why most of Vahdat's albums have been recorded and released abroad.
