About this work
After a long absence, Saga returns to his native village to find that his father has married his fiancée, Nogma. He builds a hut outside the village and the two resume their affair; when it is discovered, his father sentences him to death, and his brother Kougri, charged with carrying it out, only pretends to kill him. The couple flee to another village, but the law of the title eventually catches up with the family. The film won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 1990 and the top prize at FESPACO in 1991.
