About this work
In a Tehran maternity ward, a grandmother learns that her daughter's newborn is a girl, not the boy the ultrasound promised, and fears the in-laws' reaction. The camera then drifts from woman to woman: recently released prisoners who each run into a new obstacle as they try to buy a bus ticket, get home, end a pregnancy or find shelter, until the story closes that night in a holding cell. The Circle won the Golden Lion at the 2000 Venice Film Festival and was banned in Iran.
در زایشگاهی در تهران، مادری خبر می‌شود که نوزاد دخترش، برخلاف آنچه سونوگرافی نشان داده بود، دختر است و از واکنش خانوادهٔ داماد می‌ترسد. دوربین از او جدا می‌شود و یکی‌یکی به سراغ زنانی می‌رود که تازه از زندان بیرون آمده‌اند و هر کدام برای خریدن بلیت، رسیدن به زادگاه، سقط جنین یا یافتن سرپناه با مانع تازه‌ای روبه‌رو می‌شوند، تا آنکه روایت شبانگاه در یک بازداشتگاه به پایان می‌رسد. «دایره» در سال ۲۰۰۰ شیر طلایی جشنوارهٔ ونیز را برد و نمایش آن در ایران ممنوع شد.
