About this work
This three-part documentary records Chile's political life during the last months of Salvador Allende's government: the struggle between the government's supporters and opponents in the streets, factories and parliament, mounting strikes and tension, and finally the military coup of 11 September 1973 and the bombing of the presidential palace. The third part turns to local workers' organisations and everyday life in the same period. Guzmán and a small crew shot the footage before the coup and edited the film outside Chile; Parts One and Two premiered in the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes in 1975 and 1976.
این مستند سه‌قسمتی رویداده‌ای سیاسی شیلی در ماه‌های پایانی دولت سالوادور آلنده را ثبت می‌کند: کشمکش هواداران و مخالفان دولت در خیابان، کارخانه و پارلمان، اعتصاب‌ها و تنش‌های رو‌به‌افزایش، تا کودتای نظامی ۱۱ سپتامبر ۱۹۷۳ و بمباران کاخ ریاست‌جمهوری. قسمت سوم به سازمان‌های محلی کارگری و زندگی روزمره در همان دوره می‌پردازد. گوسمان و گروه کوچکش این تصاویر را پیش از کودتا فیلم‌برداری کردند و فیلم را بیرون از شیلی تدوین کردند؛ قسمت‌های اول و دوم در سال‌های ۱۹۷۵ و ۱۹۷۶ در بخش «دو هفتهٔ کارگردانان» جشنوارهٔ کن نمایش داده شدند.
