About this work

The documentary follows four door-to-door Bible salesmen as they pitch expensive illustrated Bibles to low-income households around Boston and later in southern Florida, with a stop at the company's sales convention in Chicago. At its centre is Paul Brennan, a middle-aged salesman whose numbers are slipping and who slowly realises he is failing. Made in the observational Direct Cinema style without narration, it was selected for the US National Film Registry in 1992.
