White Rabbit Red Rabbit
Author: Nassim Soleimanpour (playwright; no director) · 2011
About this work
There is no rehearsal, no director and no set: each night a new performer opens a sealed envelope on stage and reads, for the first time, a script they have never seen. The playwright, who was not allowed to leave Iran when he wrote it, speaks to the audience through that performer, brings volunteers on stage and tells an animal fable about rabbits, obedience and conformity, leading up to a moment in which the performer must choose between two glasses of water. According to the playwright's official website, since its joint 2011 premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe and Toronto's Summerworks festival the play has been translated into more than 30 languages and performed over 3,000 times.
