The Round-Up
Author: Miklós Jancsó · 1966
About this work
Some twenty years after the crushing of Kossuth's 1848 revolution, Habsburg officers hold prisoners in a camp on the Hungarian plain, suspecting that members of Sándor Rózsa's outlaw band are among them. Through mental and physical torture and trickery they turn the prisoners against one another; János Gajdar becomes an informer to save his life and is killed by his fellow inmates, and a final deception exposes the remaining rebels. It was Jancsó's first film to win international acclaim and was screened in the Cannes Classics section in 2015.
