About this work
Without You (Bi to be sar nemishavad) is the second album by the group billed abroad as the Masters of Persian Music: Mohammad-Reza Shajarian (voice), Hossein Alizadeh (tar), Kayhan Kalhor (kamancheh) and Homayoun Shajarian (tombak and second voice). The live programme is in dastgah Nava and avaz Bayat-e Kord, with songs and vocal sections on poems by Rumi, Attar, Hafez and Baba Taher; the album takes its name from the closing tasnif on a Rumi ghazal. It was released in Iran by Delawaz in 2002 and in the US by World Village in October 2002, and was nominated for Best Traditional World Music Album at the 46th Grammy Awards.
«بی تو به سر نمی‌شود» دومین آلبوم گروهی است که در خارج از ایران «استادان موسیقی ایرانی» نام گرفت: محمدرضا شجریان (آواز)، حسین علیزاده (تار)، کیهان کلهر (کمانچه) و همایون شجریان (تنبک و هم‌خوانی). این برنامهٔ زنده در دستگاه نوا و آواز بیات کرد است و آوازها و تصنیف‌هایش بر شعره‌ای مولوی، عطار، حافظ و باباطاهر استوار است؛ آلبوم نام خود را از تصنیف پایانی بر غزل مولوی گرفته است. آلبوم در ۱۳۸۱ با نشر دل‌آواز در ایران و در اکتبر ۲۰۰۲ با برچسب ورلد ویلج در آمریکا منتشر شد و در چهل‌وششمین دورهٔ جایزهٔ گرمی نامزد بهترین آلبوم موسیقی سنتی جهان شد.
