To approach Heine’s literature is to enter the world of one of the most controversial authors, and also one of the most conscious intellectuals about the historical crisis of his time. His work suffers the tension between Romanticism and Modern Era, this is why he tried to give a new esthetic answer that contemplated a critical view of everything that was presented as new, as well as of his past cultural heritage. هاینه یکی از بحث‌برانگیزترین نویسندگان و آگاه‌ترین روشنفکران نسبت به بحران تاریخی دوران خود بود. این مقاله سه داستان کوتاه او را بررسی می‌کند و نشان می‌دهد که آثارش در تنش میان رمانتیسیسم و دوران مدرن قرار دارند. هاینه در پاسخ به این تنش، رویکردی زیبایی‌شناختی نو پیش گرفت که هم نگاهی انتقادی به نوآوری‌های زمانه داشت و هم میراث فرهنگی گذشته‌اش را به پرسش می‌کشید.
