About this work
In April 1986 a reactor explodes at the Chernobyl nuclear plant. The series follows firefighters, plant workers and civilians exposed to radiation, and the officials who at first hide how serious it is; the scientist Valery Legasov traces the cause to a flaw in the reactor's design, and the story ends with the trial of the plant's officials. The making-of videos show how the visual effects were built around real detail and scientific limits, and how one well-known scene was recreated. The series won the Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series and the BAFTA for Best Mini-Series.
