About this work
India, 1920. A British governor and his wife abduct a girl from the Gond tribe, and Bheem, one of the tribe's men, goes to Delhi under a false name to rescue her. Ram Raju, an Indian officer in the colonial police, is assigned to catch him, yet the two become close friends without knowing who the other is, until Raju turns against the British and both men storm their stronghold together. The story is a fictional tale built around two real Indian independence fighters. The making-of videos break down how the train-explosion scene and other effects shots were built, and tour the film's sets with the director. Its song Naatu Naatu won the Oscar for Best Original Song, the first Academy Award for an Indian feature film.
