About this work
The film follows the Armenian poet and troubadour Sayat-Nova in chapters from childhood to death: a boyhood among books, dyers and weavers, love at a prince's court, retreat into a monastery, old age and the angel of death. Instead of dialogue, near-static symbolic tableaux with music and verse build the poet's inner world, and Sofiko Chiaureli plays several roles, both female and male.

فیلم زندگی سایات‌نووا، شاعر و خنیاگر ارمنی، را در فصل‌هایی از کودکی تا مرگ دنبال می‌کند: کودکی میان کتاب‌ها و کارگاه‌های رنگرزی و قالی‌بافی، دلباختگی در دربار شاهزاده، پناه بردن به صومعه، پیری و فرشتهٔ مرگ. به جای گفت‌وگو، تابلوه‌ای ایستا و نمادین با موسیقی و شعر جهان درونی شاعر را می‌سازند و سوفیکو چیائورلی چند نقش زن و مرد را بازی می‌کند.
