In Kraków, Weronika, a young soprano, feels she is not alone in the world. In France, Véronique, a music teacher born the same day, with the same face, voice and heart condition, senses a nameless bond with her. Weronika collapses on stage during a concert, and Véronique, without knowing why, is struck by sudden grief, then follows a trail of clues sent by an unknown puppeteer. At Cannes 1991 the film won Best Actress, the FIPRESCI Prize and the Ecumenical Jury Prize.
