About this work
A play based on the Ardaviraf-nameh, a Sasanian-era Zoroastrian text about a priest's journey to the afterworld. Ardaviraf passes through paradise, purgatory and hell and meets figures from Iranian history and myth, as Beyzaie tries to show the beliefs and rites of ancient Iranians through their own eyes. Written in 1999 and never staged in Iran, a shortened version was performed by 22 actors with live santur by Faraz Minooei at Stanford University on 24-25 January 2015.
نمایشی بر پایهٔ «ارداویراف‌نامه»، متن زرتشتی دوران ساسانی دربارهٔ سفر موبدی به جهان پس از مرگ. ارداویراف از بهشت، برزخ و دوزخ گذر می‌کند و با چهره‌هایی از تاریخ و اسطورهٔ ایران روبه‌رو می‌شود، و بیضایی می‌کوشد باورها و آیین‌های ایرانیان کهن را از چشم خود آنان نشان دهد. متن در ۱۳۷۸ نوشته شد و هرگز در ایران اجرا نشد؛ نسخهٔ کوتاه‌شدهٔ آن با ۲۲ بازیگر و موسیقی زندهٔ سنتور فراز می‌نویی در ۲۴ و ۲۵ ژانویهٔ ۲۰۱۵ در دانشگاه استنفورد روی صحنه رفت.
