About this work

The Kamkars are a family ensemble of seven brothers and a sister from Sanandaj who began playing Kurdish music in 1965, trained by their father Hassan Kamkar, and later carried the regional music of Iranian Kurdistan to major stages in Iran and abroad. The Living Fire, a set of Kurdish songs and tunes issued by the Long Distance label in 1995, was among the group's first releases for an international audience. It was followed by Nightingale with a Broken Wing on Real World and Kani Sepi on Kereshmeh, and the group went on to play WOMAD, the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and London's Barbican.
