About this work
Amiro, an illiterate orphan in the port city of Abadan, lives in an abandoned ship and gets by collecting bottles from the sea, shining shoes and selling iced water. He shouts at the ships and planes passing in the distance, and gradually resolves to learn to read and to keep running in his races against the other boys. Drawn from Naderi's own childhood, it was one of the first post-revolutionary Iranian films to be screened and celebrated internationally.
