This article challenges the alleged stability of the discourse on the two decades preceding the 1660 Restoration on the comic stage. It compares two representations (one immediate, one long-term) of the conflicts of the 1640s and 1650s, namely Robert Howard’s successful The Committee (1662) and Thomas Otway’s The Souldiers Fortune (1681).
