Orghast
About this work
Orghast is an experimental piece on the Prometheus myth created by Peter Brook and Ted Hughes with an international cast, including Iranian actors, for the 1971 Shiraz-Persepolis Festival of Arts. Part one was staged at dusk at Persepolis before the tomb of Artaxerxes and part two at dawn at Naqsh-e Rostam, using the ancient sites, fire and natural light as the setting. The text mixed Hughes's invented language with classical Greek and Avestan; the stage set is credited to Eugene Lee, Franne Lee and Jean Monod.
