About this work
Recorded at Columbia's New York studio in March and April 1959, the album brought Miles Davis together with Coltrane, Adderley and Bill Evans. Built on modal improvisation, Kind of Blue has a calm, open sound and became the best-selling jazz record. Critics often describe it as an influential step in jazz's development rather than a sudden break.
