The Role of Repeating Linguistic Elements in Short Story Analysis: A Linguistic Approach to the Analysis of Literary Texts

This is a research article that uses computer-assisted analysis of linguistic elements in three short stories, by Hemingway, Rogers, and Chubak, to propose a method for literary analysis. The study argues that quantitative criteria can offer a way into literary texts that remains compatible with the spirit of literature without making value judgments. Using data drawn from all three stories, the research focuses specifically on the role of repetition, examining the different forms repetition takes across these three works of literary prose.
