About this work
This is a Persian lyric poem, a ghazal, from the Divan-e Shams by Molavi. The poem addresses a minstrel, asking him to sing the refrain that the speaker has renounced his former ways for the sake of the beloved. Like much of the Divan-e Shams, it draws on the language of love, music, and spiritual surrender, using the beloved as a central figure through whom themes of devotion and transformation are expressed.
