About this work
The Divan of Hafez is a collection of Persian poetry by Hafez, a fourteenth-century poet from Shiraz. The work consists of lyric poems known as ghazals, which explore themes of love, mysticism, wine, and divine longing through richly layered imagery and wordplay. The collection has been transmitted through numerous manuscript traditions and editorial versions, including the edition prepared by Muhammad Qazvini and Qasem Ghani. As one of the most celebrated works in Persian literature, the Divan has held profound cultural and spiritual significance for Persian-speaking readers across centuries, frequently consulted as a source of wisdom and interpreted through both literary and mystical lenses.
