مقاله‌ای درباره رابطه بین موسیقی، تصویر و روایت در سینمای ورنر هرتسوگ است که از مفهوم «طیفیت» استفاده می‌کند. بر اساس این تحلیل، فیلمه‌ای هرتسوگ یک «دیدن صوتی» را خلق می‌کنند؛ موسیقی تنها همراه تصویر نیست بلکه معانی نهفته‌ای را آشکار می‌سازد و تنشی میان آنچه دیده می‌شود و آنچه شنیده می‌شود ایجاد می‌کند. نویسنده این پیوند را از آثار اولیه مانند «آخرین سخنان» و «احتیاطهایی علیه متعصبان» تا فیلمه‌ای بعدی مانند «نشانه‌های زندگی» و «فیتسکارالدو» ردیابی می‌کند.
