This is an excerpt from the Shahnameh, the epic poem by Ferdowsi, specifically the opening of the story of Sohrab. The Shahnameh is one of the great works of Persian literature, a vast verse epic recounting the myths, legends, and history of Iran. The Sohrab episode tells the story of Sohrab, the son of the hero Rostam, and sets in motion the events of their fateful encounter. This edition is based on the text edited by Jules Mohl.
