About this work
A set of Italian playing cards from the eighteenth century, held in the Douce collection of the Bodleian Library, Oxford, item 47. Printed and hand-coloured cards of this kind are among the earliest surviving examples of popular graphic art in Italy, and their suits and figures record the visual culture of everyday life in the period. The Bodleian Libraries have digitised the set, and every card can be viewed free at the source.
