About this work

An anthology of nature poems compiled by Edwin Osgood Grover (New York: Thomas Y. Crowell, 1927) as a pocket companion for walkers and lovers of the outdoors. According to Project Gutenberg's description, in his opening essay, 'On Knapsack Carrying', Grover invites readers to 'walk afield with the poets'; the poems are by English and American poets, arranged in sections such as travel, gardens, trees, the sea and the sky, and the first section, 'The Lure of the Road', has verses by Masefield, Whitman and others.
